New Creature: Evolved
New Creature: Evolved is a project of self-reflection through costume design. The piece reflects the idea of the evolving self and becoming a “new creature,” enhancing the human body into a projected idea of a new and improved body. My project idea was inspired by a Bible verse: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new,” (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is an exploration from the perspective of the person wearing the costume. I explored how the costume and wearing the costume creates a sense of empowerment as a result of the change and concealment of one’s identity.
