The Disquiet Mind

The Disquiet Mind is a collection of ten 3D modeled environments that reflect the internal emotions experienced as a result of my own severe anxiety. They have been created to educate those who have no experience with an anxiety disorder and to be relatable to those who do. It was important to me that this project accurately depicted anxiety as diverse and changing from person to person. Throughout the creation of this project, I channeled my own experiences with anxiety, incorporating personal journal entries about my daily life and symptoms felt during the stressful creative process. The piece explores multiple scenarios in which anxiety may manifest within myself and others and serves to visualize that which is unseen. These responses to anxiety-inducing stressors can involve mental burnout, physical tension, memory loss, and more. The decision to use 3D modeling as the primary medium came from my desire to create spaces that can be seen as believable, areas one can visualize themselves standing in physically, adding to the viewer’s immersion. From the inclusion of sound and interactive movement to the consistent use of a one-point perspective, these scenes immediately draw the viewer into a space that prompts an emotional response.
