For Love, of the Life, We Choose*

There is a whimsical moment between the lives we carry on with and the life we choose to live under any harsh climate and/or conditions, being natural, political, and/or social, such as hurricanes experienced in the South-East, military coups in Venezuela, or the forbearing inequality experienced by minorities in America. I’ve always sought out formidable experiences like immigrating from Venezuela to America as my Grandparents once immigrated from Spain to Venezuela, moving across the country to pursue a better future, or seeking out the tallest peaks in the lower 48 to summit, removed from society. These experiences seem to be the most enriching, enthralled by our dreams rendering us the individuals we genuinely aim to be. However, these moments are usually found in solitude, isolation, free from distraction, and some cases far away from those involved in our lives. An unsent postcard is a very peculiar way of telling a story. Capturing the ephemeral moment of fulfillment from one’s chosen life left unspoken, true to its nature. In a way, it seems to be more instinctual, learning through these experiences, that brings you one step close to knowing yourself, yet many won’t indeed come to know. These drawings come together to tell the story of how conditions have brought me to discover a familiar past, my roots spanning across the Americas and the lives of those that have laid the path forward in my family. Always returning to the raw essence of truth behind the places, moments, and endeavors that started on two feet and with two hands. Bridging these explorations of tactility, design, and storytelling.
