Upcycled Print

The popularity of fast fashion among Gen Z has made it easier than ever to shop for new and trendy pieces of clothing. However, it has also made it easier to throw away clothing with the changing of seasons, creating large amounts of textile waste. In order to combat this issue and live sustainably, thrift stores offer second-hand clothing as a solution. But pre-owned clothing might not always fit a consumer’s interest. This project has been motivated by providing the potential of creating something personal, unique, and new from something old, like upcycling, beyond what thrift stores can offer. Upcycled Print is a project that promotes the transformation of second-hand clothing through screen printing. It encourages Gen Z to have more fun with old materials, demonstrating how anyone can create a unique piece of wearable art in their closet by customizing and applying a new design. Through resources on screen printing, free stencils, and real-life examples of clothing transformed by me, this informative project aims to teach and engage my audience on how they can upcycle at home and share the results online - ultimately urging my audience to share and learn from each other.
